Here’s a look at what you should know about buying a used GMC Acadia:

Two Different Generations

The GMC Acadia has two different generations of production. Production of the first generation spanned 2006 (introduction of 2007 model) to 2016 with the second generation arriving in 2017 to present. The first generation centers around the original body style that saw refreshes every three years, but little in the way of changes in the engine and drive train. Most of the differences you’ll find in the used GMC Acadia market come down to cosmetic changes and different trim levels and packages.

The second generation of the GMC Acadia was introduced in 2017 and features a completely overhauled body. The nose is more forward-facing, and the exterior has a boxy appearance with less of the softer styling that the first generation embodies. The body length and width also got shaved down by 7 inches in length and 4.5 inches in width and resulted in the model getting downsized to a compact crossover status as opposed to a CUV.

The Different Engines Available Throughout the Years

Engines in both generations haven’t undergone a lot of change since the model was introduced in 2006. The first engine used is the 3.6-L LY7 V-6, and is the same engine found in the Cadillac CTS. In 2009, the engine was changed to a 3.6 LLT V-6, then changed again in 2016 to the 3.6-L LGX V-6. The LY7 generated 275 hp, and the LLT generated 288 hp. The LGX, which is still in use, generates 310 hp. Over time, GMC took some of the size and weight off the car while increasing the available horsepower in the engine.
