Since its debut, electric car technology is improving rapidly due to the emergence of various battery and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. But what are the benefits of purely electric cars? Here’s all you need to know about the Nissan, Chevy, Buick, and GMC electric vehicles that you can find and pre-order at #1 Cochran in Youngstown, Ohio.

What Are Electric Vehicles?

Electric cars have onboard lithium-ion batteries that can store large amounts of energy and then use it to power the wheels. These batteries are separate from the traditional car batteries that are used to start an alternator and power electrical systems. Electric cars are not hybrids in any way and have no gas tank, engine, or other parts that are required for liquid fuel combustion. They don’t even have tailpipes since they don’t have an exhaust.

The three essential components for an electric vehicle are the motor, battery, and controller. The controller changes the direct current (DC) in the battery into an alternating current (AC). Coupled with the other systems, this current change is essential to generate forward motion.

You can plug in an EV at a growing number of charging stations or simply at your home. Some automakers are testing new options, such as charging platforms that you merely park over. In their first few years, electric cars did not have nearly as much range, but now it’s normal for budget-price EVs to travel between 100 and 200 miles or more on a single charge. Although the future of transportation will change in several ways, some predictable and some not, most would agree that electric cars are built from a more sustainable starting point than fuel-burning cars.

Why You’ll Love Having an Electric Vehicle

Let’s examine a few reasons why so many folks around Youngstown are making the switch to an electric vehicle:

  • Zero emissions: Since electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions, they are ideal for commuters who frequently find themselves stopping and starting on congested city streets.
  • Renewable energy: Another benefit is the peace of mind and economic simplicity that comes with having a vehicle that uses far fewer or no non-renewable resources. Although large amounts of electric power are still fossil fuel-dependent, more alternatives are becoming prevalent, including solar, wind, and even water-based electric power.
  • Less maintenance: Since 100% electric vehicles don’t need engine oil, they may skip standard routine maintenance for this and other fluids. You’ll mostly only need to visit for routine checks of the battery and converter systems.
  • Quieter drive: You and your passengers can enjoy a more peaceful ride without the clamor and vibration of an engine.
  • Performance: If you’re worried about electric cars having weak performance, you need to try a modern EV. The almost immediate torque delivery is empowering in a way that gasoline engines can’t catch up to.
  • Tax incentives: Purchasing an EV may entitle you to incentives from your state or, as of 2023, federal tax incentives for buying an electric vehicle.

No. The electric motor powering an EV doesn’t need engine oil. If your EV’s gearbox takes transmission fluid, consult your owner’s manual for the recommended service interval.
