Stay in Shape at These Local Gyms in Hermitage

December 27th, 2022 by

The holiday season usually brings with it a lot of family, joy, and food. There’s nothing like the quick succession of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve to help pack on those holiday pounds. Add in the hearty, fat-filled meals that help most people get through the cold Pennsylvania winters, and you’ll probably be starting the new year off with a resolution to get back in shape.

The truth is, having a good fitness program makes it easier to indulge with family and friends these holidays. Even if you aren’t currently following a program, it’s never too late to start exercising to get your body in shape.

While everyone else is eating cookies, snacks, and eggnog, you can work off the holiday calories in one of the best gyms in the Hermitage area. So, take a look at the local gyms listed below and see which program works best for you.

The Buhl Club

Among the many other things it provides for the community, The Buhl Club has a full-service fitness center with weekly classes to help local residents stay in shape. Founded in 1903, this club makes it its mission to “provide quality recreational, social, fitness, and educational programs for people of all ages.”

This means it’s also a great place to bring your kids and the whole family beyond that. In fact, you can even pay for a monthly membership for your family of two or more people, which covers full use of the fitness center and also provides access to fitness classes. Having a membership means you can also use the men’s steam room, ladies’ sauna, members’ lounge, and the Olympic-sized swimming pool. In addition, you’ll benefit from locker access, so you can store your stuff while you work out.

If you’re a working parent and want to go to the gym but don’t have an option for childcare at home, bring your kids along to The Buhl Club with you. Even if they don’t want to participate in a fitness class, membership at the club also covers a child watch service, so you can leave your children with trusted caretakers while you take care of your physical health.

What group fitness classes can you choose from with your membership? A whole lot, it turns out. Sign up for swim, dance, gymnastics, aerobics, basketball, volleyball, or pickleball, just to name a few of the activities on offer.

In addition to family memberships, The Buhl Club also offers individual youth, teen, college, and adult memberships. A youth membership (up until eighth grade) costs around $10 per month, while a teen membership (high school age) costs $15 per month. Both memberships cover access to the game room and special youth discounts and classes. A college-aged member will pay $20 per month, while for adults, the fee is $30 per month.

Shenango Valley YMCA

The YMCA believes in supporting and nurturing individuals’ mental, spiritual, and physical health. The Shenango Valley chapter was founded in 1988, and among the many good works it does for the local community, it focuses on providing great fitness and athletic programs.

Gather at this YMCA with people of all ages to play sports, like basketball, or simply work on your cardio using one of the many modern exercise machines in the full-service gym. You’ll find an aerobics center, fitness center, gym, sauna, weight room, and outdoor field you can use in the warmer months.

Located at 925 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, the Shenango Valley YMCA is open on weekdays from 5:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. Different people like to work out at different times, so whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, this schedule allows you to stay active at a time that works best for you and your body.

The gym is also open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays. Guests who want a little extra fitness education are welcome to participate in the various food, health and wellbeing, and sports and recreation programs offered at the Shenango Valley YMCA.

Iron Eagle Fitness 24/7

Iron Eagle Fitness 24/7 is a locally owned and operated gym that has been thriving in Hubbard, Ohio, for years, paying special attention to creating and keeping loyal customers through excellent service and friendly attitudes from its staff. Customers rate their experience at this gym as fairly high, not only for its cleanliness standard and commitment to keeping a wide range of fitness machines on hand but also for its opening hours. As the name suggests, this gym is open 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

People who work odd shifts or unusual hours are especially thankful for a 24/7 gym in the area, as most gyms are closed when they finally have the time and energy to get out for a workout.

Whether you want to focus on weight training, cardio, flexibility, or almost anything else you can think of in the fitness realm, Iron Eagle Fitness 24/7 is where you want to be. As the gym is smaller and more private than most others in the area, you’ll need to call the gym to find out its rates, as well as current availability for memberships. The effort is more than worth it, as membership will give you access to a professional gym any time of day or night.

While most people indulge in overeating during the many get-togethers and celebrations of the holiday season, you can make an effort to get active and get back in shape so you can start the new year off right.
