Both are available in four trims. The Ford F-150 Lightning offers Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum, while the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has the EV2, EV2X, EV3X, and Edition 1. Here is a summary of the exterior features of each of these trucks:

Ford F-150 Lightning Exterior Features

The Ford F-150 Lightning Pro trim features LED headlights and 18-inch wheels. You also get a Class IV trailer hitch to haul what you need, whether it’s for work or play. The Platinum upgrades you to 22-inch wheels, and the Max Trailer package boosts the towing capacity.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup Exterior Features

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s standard features include 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, forward and underbody cameras, protective underbody skid plates, and a configurable tailgate. You also get a trailer hitch and trailer brake controller that allows adjustment of the trailer’s brakes from inside the cab of your Hummer EV Pickup.

A power-retractable cargo bed cover is an optional feature on the Hummer EV Pickup. Adding the Enhanced Accessory Off-Road package gets you a spare tire, a tool kit, and an off-road recovery kit. If you add the Exterior Lighting package, you get windshield pillar-mounted off-road lights, tailgate step lighting, and auxiliary switches. The Hummer EV Pickup also features the industry-leading Infinity Roof with available transparent sky panels to give you an open-air driving experience. You can lower the power Rear Drop Glass and remove the four panels and the front I-Bar to let the world inside your Hummer EV.

Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Range and Towing Capacity

The Ford F-150 Lightning offers two battery options. The Pro, XLT, and Lariat feature a 98 kWh battery pack that delivers 452 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. You can expect an EPA-estimated range of 230 miles with the standard battery. The Platinum has a larger 131 kWh battery for 580 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, with an electric range of 320 miles. The extended battery is also available on the XLT and Lariat.

If you opt for the Pro, you get a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. You can increase that to 7,700 pounds by adding the Max Trailering package. Selecting the Platinum trim with the larger battery allows you to tow a maximum of 10,000 pounds, with a maximum payload of 2,235 pounds.

GMC Hummer EV Pickup Electric Range and Towing Capacity

The Ultium battery system, a boundary-pushing innovation, drives the Hummer EV Pickup. This Ultium battery system includes 24 modules with 24 cells or a total of 576 pouch cells, each with a capacity of 100-amp hours. This translates to just over 200 kWh of usable power, generating 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. The EV2 gets an estimated 250 miles of electric range, with the EV2X and EV3X each going 300 miles. The Edition 1 earns an estimated range of over 350 miles to keep you on the road and away from the charging stations longer.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a slightly lower towing capacity than the Platinum but higher than the Pro without the extra package added. With the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, you can tow up to 7,500 pounds with a payload capacity of 1,300 pounds.

The cameras have replaceable lens protectors and a washer function to clean the view. You also get a surround-view to monitor your Hummer EV from a birds-eye perspective.

The Hummer EV also features specially designed Goodyear Wrangler Territory 35-inch tires for top performance on and off the road. Your Hummer EV can also lower itself two inches for an enhanced center of gravity when off-roading for a truly multi-sensory experience.

The Verdict

Both of these electric trucks are excellent options. However, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup offers more horsepower and lb-ft of torque with a longer electric range. It also provides more extras, especially if you’re interested in off-roading. These features put the Hummer EV over the top for us.
